The published list includes 100 properties with significant outstanding tax liabilities. The pending dues range from around Rs 8.5 lakh to nearly Rs 4.9 crore per property. Officials noted that the top five properties together account for approximately Rs 11.73 crore, representing a substantial share of the total outstanding amount. The properties identified in the recovery drive belong to various categories, including commercial buildings, office spaces, residential developments, hotels, institutional buildings, educational establishments, trust-owned properties, and mixed-use developments. The Corporation has clarified that all property owners are legally required to pay property tax irrespective of the nature or ownership of the property. As part of the recovery campaign, GCC is expected to issue notices to property owners with pending dues and initiate further recovery proceedings where necessary under the provisions of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act. Property owners who fail to clear their dues within the stipulated period may face penalties, recovery proceedings, and other legal measures as permitted by law. Municipal officials stated that strengthening property tax collection remains a key priority as it directly supports the Corporation's ability to execute infrastructure projects and improve civic amenities across Chennai. Enhanced tax compliance will also help reduce revenue gaps and provide additional financial resources for ongoing and future urban development initiatives. The Corporation has urged all property owners to verify their property tax records, pay any pending dues promptly, and make timely future payments to avoid penalties and enforcement action. Officials also encouraged taxpayers to use the GCC's online payment system and citizen service centres for hassle-free tax payments.
